Fall in April

Fall in April

2008-04-13

Seriously, we have Fall in April: a mishmash of color everywhere, walking under bright collages suspended in the trees, and then one day it's all underfoot and the trees are bare. Only they're not quite bare. They are covered in a stubble of small green leaves, and that makes all the difference.

We took a walk with the kids today and ended up at the park again. We intended to walk up the hill behind the house to a mountainside covered with every variety of Cherry tree in Japan (including many that are just starting to bloom). The place is a special Cherry tree preserve, but it was closed by the time we finally got moving. People come from all over to go there. Hopefully, we'll make it before it's too late this year.

Check out my new "other" blog at www.globalcompassion.com/andy/ and see how it develops.

  • That sakura tree preserve sounds very intriguing. I would imagine it would be a very beautiful spot. It would be interesting to see the subtle variations between them.

The new site is easy enough to navigate, although I think I prefer the look of the old site. While I'm glad you still have a site where you blog about your thoughts and spiritual ideas, I really enjoyed your past writings (which in my opinion didn't come off as over serious). It would be great if there were some way to still access those columns, maybe an archive link?

  • Well, I ran into a problem that I didn't solve (yet or ever...). I backed up the database using PhpMyadmin but then I couldn't import the database into the new blog. The problem is the database file is over the size limit. I can go into the database and cut and paste text back into the blog (obviously that's a pain). Otherwise, I don't know what to do about it. Any ideas?

  • Sorry, I'm not that knowledgable about web pages or server type applications, I'll ask around though and see if anyone I know has a suggestion. Computers sometimes are such a pain, you always encounter things you didn't think you would have to deal with.
