On another note, yesterday we were talking to a young Japanese woman who casually mentioned that she fell into depression sometime after graduating from university. As a result, she lost her first job and spent a period of time in treatment. As we talked about that further, it turned out that about 12 of 20 students that she graduated with in her program were hospitalized due to depression...wow. Previously, we did some research for a friend and discovered that it's very difficult for a clinically depressed individual to get into a hospital in Tokyo. There are plenty of programs, but most are full to capacity. No wonder. I know a number of Japanophiles read this blog. In case you hadn't noticed, this ain't utopia -- though it sure looks nice in the Spring.
