I was looking at a photo today and Hitomi said, "Her coat is red." This provoked some quick searching for answers online. After making a few adjustments in Lightroom, suddenly LOTS of photos look better... Many times I've considered tweaking the calibration settings, but I've always assumed Adobe would "get it right." But they didn't.

I don't want to post examples. It's amazing how eyes work. Colors seem to "pop out" until you do something to make the REALLY pop out. Then the previously popping colors look flat as a mat under a dead cat. You know. (It's late.) Anyway, I may have found a way to get better colors (coming soon).

UPDATE: Something is not right. My images look great in Lightroom and initially in Photoshop, but when I convert to sRGB they are washed out. I don't know why, because this usually doesn't happen. Plus, when I save for the web, they appear to change, but don't (still washed out). I'm missing something obvious...?

  • I really like the colors.

I have never experienced the problem you mentioned in PS, and I've used lightning room just once. Are you sure you saved the snapshot?

  • Are you using the "export to web" or "save for web" thing in PS? Maybe it's something to do with the export settings. Sometimes that can affect the colours or the overall quality.

  • No, nothing like that. BTW, if you don't convert to sRGB before using "Export to web," then the colors will go flat. I learned that quite awhile back. In this case, I think the colors created in Lightroom were outside the sRGB color gamut. The red was too richly red for sRGB to handle, and so it was rendered incorrectly. To fix the problem, I toned down the colors in Lightroom and worked on making them more accurate at the same time. Now I'm getting good results. You may not notice the difference, but the reds are better (not in this photo, although the colors in this photo wouldn't be affected by the changes anyway).
